The landscape of Umbria, the only landlocked region in Italy, features wide open plains that alternate with rolling hills and mountains up to 2500 meters high. Along with famous cultural centers, visitors can discover hundreds of quaint Medieval villages, Romanesque churches and monasteries tucked away in the often thickly wooded valleys and nestled on the tiny hilltops amidst groves of olive trees.

The flora and fauna of the region are extraordinarily rich. The broad swaths of cropland are colored with the brilliant yellow of sunflowers, the intense red of poppies and the lush green and golden ochre of the corn.
